Nanotechnology is a top research priority of the U.S. government and the president. The potential contributions of nanotechnology to future economic growth has brought increasing government attention to this field. The National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) is a federal R&D program established to coordinate the multiagency efforts in nanoscale science, engineering, and technology. Twenty-five federal agencies participate in NNI and most of these agencies have nanotechnology budgets.
